There are different types of breathing techniques, below are my personal favorites and the most often used for the following purposes: bring calmness and relaxation to my mind and body, to take me to other states of consciousness, to bring healing to my body (especially when a cold/flu is starting), to make me fall asleep, to relieve stress, to bring me to the present moment and more...
Breathe low "Belly Breathing" (Belly in and Belly out)
Fill with oxygen your 1. belly and then 2. chest and then the 3. head area (optional) meaning, inhale deeply...
Boxed breathing (10-12 times)
2. 4-7-8 breathing (10-12 times)
3. Alternate nostril breathing (10-12 times)
Put one hand on top of your belly and the other on top of the chest when performing boxed and 4-7-8 breathing
Do these breathing techniques either sitting or lying down. Avoid doing these while standing.
Take your time...the slower, the better.
Simultaneously do a "body and thought scan' while doing the breathing techniques (optional)
Close your eyes and enjoy the benefits.
