My top three favorite breathing techniques

Updated: Sep 4, 2022

There are different types of breathing techniques, below are my personal favorites and the most often used for the following purposes: bring calmness and relaxation to my mind and body, to take me to other states of consciousness, to bring healing to my body (especially when a cold/flu is starting), to make me fall asleep, to relieve stress, to bring me to the present moment and more...

  • Basic recipe:

    • Inhale (nose)

      • hold

    • Exhale (mouth)

      • hold

    • Breathe low "Belly Breathing" (Belly in and Belly out)

    • Fill with oxygen your 1. belly and then 2. chest and then the 3. head area (optional) meaning, inhale deeply...

  1. Boxed breathing (10-12 times)

2. 4-7-8 breathing (10-12 times)

3. Alternate nostril breathing (10-12 times)

Additional Tips:

  • Put one hand on top of your belly and the other on top of the chest when performing boxed and 4-7-8 breathing

  • Do these breathing techniques either sitting or lying down. Avoid doing these while standing.

  • Take your time...the slower, the better.

  • Simultaneously do a "body and thought scan' while doing the breathing techniques (optional)

  • Close your eyes and enjoy the benefits.
